The 2nd annual Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) opens October 24, 2013. Organized by filmmakers Ritu Sarin’s and Tenzing Sonam’s White Crane Arts & Media, DIFF will be held from October 24–27 in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala, India. Over three dozen films will be screened during the four day DIFF, with filmmakers attending from around the world. Last year’s inaugural event drew over 5,000 attendees.
New this year is Art and Film in collaboration with Vienna-based Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Foundation (TBA21). The section will be presented by Francesca von Habsburg, founder of TBA21, and features films made by international artists Sean Snyder, Wael Shawky, Marine Hugonnier, Omer Fast, Walid Raad and Rabih Mroué.
The world premiere of Watermark, by Jennfer Baichwal and Edward Burtynsky will join films from fourteen nations, and filmmaker Umesh Kulkarni has curated a selection of recent Indian short films.
Some of the film personalities who are expected to attend the festival are: Jacek Borcuch (Lasting), Nishtha Jain (Gulabi Gang), Nitin Kakkar (Filmistaan), Avijit Mukul Kishore (To Let the World In), Nagraj Manjule (Fandry), Guneet Monga (The Lunchbox), Maximón Monihan (La Voz De Los Silenciados), Sylvia Wilczynski, (The Rocket), Anand Patwardhan (Jai Bhim Comrade), Sange Dorjee Thongdok (Crossing Bridges), Amit Virmani (Menstrual Man), Prasanna Vithanage (With You Without You), and Ramon Zürcher (The Strange Little Cat).
