The tenth annual Buddhist Film Festival in Europe (BFFE) takes place in Amsterdam October 2–4, 2015. Presented at the Eye Film Museum, BFFE offers a program of films from around the world plus a special tribute to the fifteen years of Dutch Buddhist broadcaster BOS. Both BFFE and BOS were organized by filmmaker and BFF Advisory Council member Babeth VanLoo.
BFFE opens with Golden Kingdom, a dramatic feature from Myanmar. Several films from China include the closing night film Journey to the West, from Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-liang, and documentaries about Taiwan’s largest NGO Tzu Chi, the music of composer Guo Wenji, and a special preview presentation of One Mind, the new film from director Edward Burger (Amongst White Clouds). Films from the US include one about Ram Dass and Timothy Leary (Dying to Know), Alan Watts (Why Not Now?), and poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti (A Rebirth of Wonder). In addition, there will be three unusual films about Tibetan culture.
Sunday afternoon is a special panel discussion around the theme “Compassion,” with neurosurgeon James Doty, director of the Stanford University Center for Compassion and Altruism Research; the African-American zen teacher, writer and political activist Angel Kyodo Williams; award-winning theatermaker Adelheid Roosen; and philosopher Henk Oosterling.
The full program is available at the official website.
