BuddhaFest 2023 Online Festival Runs September 10–October 22

This year’s BuddhaFest Online Festival is presented by Lion’s Roar, and features a very special seven-film tribute to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in celebration of his 88th year, programmed by International Buddhist Film Festival (IBFF). BuddhaFest streams September 10–October 22.

The films are Compassion In Exile, by Mickey Lemle; Heart of Tibet, by David Cherniak; In Search of Kundun, by Michael Wilson; Kalachakra: The Enlightenment, by Natalie Fuchs; The Last Dalai Lama?, by Mickey Lemle; The Sun Behind the Clouds, by Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam; and Wheel of Time, by Werner Herzog.

In addition, there is the feature documentary Wandering…But Not Lost, about Yongey Mingur Rinpoche, by Paul MacGowan, plus Heart Strings, featuring a live performance of an expanded version of the soundtrack for The Last Dalai Lama?, with Philip Glass and Tenzin Choegyal, by Arturo Bejar (presented courtesy of the Philip Glass Center for the Arts, Science, and the Environment).

Also, by very special arrangement, there are two previously unreleased, unedited interviews with the Dalai Lama: from the film Refuge, by John Dileva Halpern, and from the film The Sun Behind the Clouds, by Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam.

BuddhaFest always features new talks from noted Buddhist teachers. This year these include Matthieu Ricard, Robert Thurman, Ruth King, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, Lama Tsultrim Allione, Craig Hamilton, and Ven. Thubten Chodorn, plus author Pico Iyer, in conversation with Gaetano Kazuo Maida, about his lifetime of connection with the Dalai Lama.
