The IBFF is presenting a series of four films that look at the lighter side of enlightenment. The series is a collaboration with the Freer Gallery in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution’s Sackler Gallery sculpture exhibition “The Return of the Buddha.” Gaetano Kazuo Maida, Executive Director of the IBFF, will introduce and discuss the final three films of the series.
The Laughing Buddha: Four Buddhist Comedies series includes Enlightenment Guaranteed, by Doris Dörrie (June 18, 7:00 pm), The Cup, by Khyentse Norbu (June 24, 7:00 pm), Shower, by Yang Zhang (June 25, 7:00 pm), and Hi! Dharma, by Park Cheol-kwan (June 27, 2:00 pm). “We were delighted to find some humorous looks at aspects of the Buddhist arena, and these are films from four very different cultures,” Maida said. “The Buddhist cinema continues to expand and surprise.”
Tickets to the Meyer Auditorium screenings are free.
