New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is presenting a series of films organized by Trace Foundation entitled Lens on Tibet, August 20-31, 2014. Thirteen recent films by directors based in several countries will be screened at MoMA, and several of the filmmakers will be in attendance at their films.
Among the works is The Silent Holy Stones, the dramatic feature film debut by Pema Tseden (Old Dog, The Search), which is distributed in North America by Festival Media. Mr. Tseden will be on hand at the August 22, 7:00 pm screening for Q&A after the film.
Other highlights include the World Premiere of The Son of A Herder, by Tashi Chopel, August 28, 4:00 pm and August 31, 5:00 pm; the New York premiere of The Sun Beaten Path, a dramatic feature by Sonthar Gyal (who was also the cinematographer for The Silent Holy Stones; Mr. Gyal is expected to attend the August 23, 7:30 pm screening); and several North American premieres: They Are One Hundred Years Old, by Dukar Tserang, August 24, 5:00 pm, with the director in attendance; Yartsa Rinpoche: Precious Caterpillar, by Dorje Tsering Chenaktsang, on August 21, 7:00 pm, director attending; Nowhere to Call Home, August 23, 4:00 pm, with director Jocelyn Ford in person; Embrace, by Pema Tashi and Dan Smyer Yu, August 28, 7:00 pm and August 31, 2:00 pm; and The Valley of the Heroes, by Kashem Gyal, August 29, 7:00 pm and August 30, 4:00 pm.
