The fifth Thus Have I Seen Film Festival (T.H.I.S.) in Singapore takes place September 22-29, 2018 at the Shaw Theatres Lido. Fifteen films along with a filmmaker dialogue are scheduled for this edition of the biennial event.
Singapore premieres include several films coming off their IBFF 2018 presentations: the feature film debut of Bhutanese director Dechen Roder, Honeygiver Among the Dogs, Mickey Lemle’s The Last Dalai Lama?, Kim Shelton’s A Thousand Mothers, and Edward Burger’s One Mind. Other highlights include the opening night screening of the period drama Flower and Sword, by Japanese director Tetsuo Shinohara; the feature film debut from Thai director Kanitta Kwanyoo, Karma; Yang Zhang’s latest, Soul on A String, adapted from novels by Tibetan author Tashi Dawa; a documentary about Tibetan nuns by Taiwanese photographer Lin Li-fang, Tsunma Tsunma; and documentary by David Wright that includes a restored and digitized Out of This World made by Lowell Thomas in Tibet in the 1950s, along with photographs and footage from Wright’s own expedition.
Filmmaker and curator Tan Bee Thiam will moderate a dialogue between guest directors Dechen Roder and Lin Li-Fang.
T.H.I.S. was founded by Dharma In Action (DIA) in 2009, following IBFF 2007 SINGAPORE, which was presented at the Shaw Theatres Lido by Asian Buddhist Film Festival. DIA is a mostly volunteer effort with a mission to present cultural and educational programs rooted in Buddhist values and philosophies to the local community.
