Our 20th Anniversary Year

Buddhist Film Foundation (BFF) is celebrating its first twenty years throughout 2020.

BFF was founded in 2000 with a mission to present, preserve, produce, and promote motion pictures with Buddhist subjects, settings, or ideas. Since then, BFF has become the world’s leading resource for Buddhist-themed/-inspired cinema. More>

Its International Buddhist Film Festival (IBFF) has been presented in ten cities in eight countries, screening over 300 films from twenty-two nations.

Over two dozen films have been supported through BFF’s fiscal sponsorship program, with over US$2mm raised and several sponsored films going on to international awards and distribution success. BFF’s DVD distribution service, Festival Media, released twenty titles on DVD in North America, selling over 100,000 units, to the benefit of the filmmakers and BFF programs.

PLEASE NOTE: International Buddhist Film Festival 2020, with a very special program of new films and classics, was to have been presented in the second quarter of the year, but due to the COVID-19 crisis has been postponed. Please subscribe for email news for all the details as they are announced.

In the second half of the year comes the long awaited launch of Buddhist Film Channel, our TVOD streaming platform for international Buddhist cinema. A sneak peek beta version will be available earlier to those who sign up for email updates at www.buddhistfilmchannel.com.

And finally, in time for the 2020 holidays, a sure-to-be-coveted illustrated coffee table book: Cinema Buddha, designed by noted artist Milton Glaser, with an introduction by celebrated author Pico Iyer. Several dozen of the very best Buddhist films from our first twenty years of unique programming will be featured, lavishly illustrated, and annotated with text by directors, screenwriters, critics, and dharma teachers. Paper, cloth, slipcase, and collectors box editions are planned. Make sure you’re subscribed for email alerts to get timely information about this treasure trove of Buddhist cinema.

A year to remember at Buddhist Film Foundation, the beginning of our next decade. We hope you will join us.
