Return to Gandhi Road Opens in New Zealand

IBFF 2020 Official Selection Return to Gandhi Road opens on September 3 in a national theatrical release in New Zealand, home to director Yeshe Hegan and her father, Kim, a key character in the documentary.

[digital collage of blue sky and green mountain range behind a centered mountain-like portrait of a smiling, bald headed man with maroon robes, behind a lower, smaller snow capped mountain range, behind a small figure of a man in dark clothes walking forward on water, above white text that reads return to gandhi road]Return to Gandhi Road tells the epic story of the gifted Tibetan teacher Kangyur Rinpoche, who in an arduous three year ordeal, escaped Tibet on foot with a complete set of the Tibetan Buddhist canon (the Kangyur, original texts attributed to Sakyamuni Buddha translated from Sanskrit or Chinese). He was a key figure in seeding the soil for the blossoming of Tibetan Buddhism in the West.

The story is well told, with commentators including Matthieu Ricard and Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, along with Kangyur Rinpoche’s two sons, Tulku Pema Wangyal Rinpoche and Jigme Khyentse Rinpoche. Filmed on location in India and New Zealand.
